The judges of the 2023/24 UK travel competition are pleased to announce that they are now able to make two awards of 15,000 Czech crowns this year, instead of just one.
Quinta student Ondrej Malý who submitted a first class plan to visit London, Portsmouth and Windsor for six days in July will receive 15,000 Kc.
The same amount will be shared by Quinta students Anna Bydžovská and Jana Zurynková who will travel together to Oxford and Cambridge for a six day visit , also in July.
The three judges – Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines, Johana Macková (the first travel award winner in 2011) and I – have been impressed by the detailed planning of the entrants and the careful costing of their trips.
We feel that the students will have plenty of opportunity to speak, listen to and understand English and in this way to improve their own English skills. That is the purpose of this competition.
The judges send their thanks to members of the English Department at Gybon for encouraging the Quinta students and we are especially grateful to Mr. Pavel Adámek for his usual efficient and thoughtful organisation.
Details about the presentation of the awards, probably in May, will follow.
Best wishes to all at Gybon
Julian Wilde on behalf of Johana Macková and Milena Grenfell-Baines
